Swisher County Jail Records Start Here
No official Swisher County-hosted jail roster or inmate-search table was located in the source review. The Swisher County Sheriff page gives the local custody office and historically points users to VINELink for offender custody status. Current statewide guidance from the Texas Attorney General victim-notification page says Texas moved from VINE to Texas IVSS-Counties effective September 1, 2025. That means Swisher County inmate records have to be checked through a chain, not one local roster screen.
The chain is simple. Use Texas IVSS-Counties for custody status and notifications, then call the Swisher County Sheriff's Office for local jail confirmation if the arrest is recent or the result is unclear. Ask the sheriff for jail and booking records when a record is not published online. Use the TDCJ locator for sentenced Texas prisoners, the BOP locator for federal inmates, and ICE ODLS for immigration custody. No official Swisher sheriff or Tulia police mobile app with a roster was documented.
The official Swisher County Sheriff source is the right local source for county jail custody. The image below comes from the Swisher County Sheriff page, where the sheriff's office lists its contact details and custody-status link.
Use the sheriff page as the local confirmation point when an IVSS result does not answer whether a person is physically held in the Swisher County Jail.
Use the Swisher County Jail Lookup Chain
Because Swisher County does not appear to publish a local roster page, the best search method starts broad and then narrows to the local jail. IVSS may show current custody or supervision status, but it warns that the search result is not an official law-enforcement record. A direct sheriff call is still important for very new bookings, bond holds, transport status, or any case where the name is common.
- Search Texas IVSS-Counties by full or partial name. If a Jail ID, SID, DOC ID, or permanent booking number is known, use it to reduce false matches.
- Complete the Captcha and review the custody or notification result. Treat the result as status support, not the final jail record.
- Call the Swisher County Sheriff's Office at 806-995-3326 if the person may be in the county jail, the arrest is recent, or IVSS does not show a match.
- Ask the sheriff how to request jail or booking records if the needed item is not public online.
- Use TDCJ, BOP, or ICE when the person is not in local pretrial or county jail custody.
For the custody portal itself, the manifest image below is from Texas IVSS-Counties, the current statewide search and notification system identified in the research.
IVSS is useful for Swisher County custody checks, but jail staff or the records custodian remains the source for official jail records.
Swisher County Inmate Search Fields
Texas IVSS-Counties does not work like a local Swisher County roster with columns for current inmates. It uses a statewide offender search field and can support notifications. The portal states that records may be searched by name or identifiers, and that a Captcha is required. It also provides 24x7 support at 866-268-8959.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Options or Format Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search for an offender | Text search | Unspecified | Accepts full name, partial name, DOC ID, SID, Jail ID, or permanent booking number. |
| Captcha | Challenge | Yes | Required before search results are returned. |
| Login or Create an Account | Account links | No for basic search | Useful for registration and notification options. |
| Support | Help line | No | IVSS lists 866-268-8959 for around-the-clock support. |
If the record involves a sentenced Texas prisoner, use TDCJ Inmate Information Search instead. TDCJ search fields include last name, first name, TDCJ number, SID number, gender, and race. TDCJ says its online search covers only current TDCJ custody, is updated on working days, and is at least 24 hours old.
What Swisher County Inmate Records Show
Swisher County does not appear to publish a local public roster profile with booking photos, charge tables, bond rows, or housing-unit fields. That limits what can be seen online from county sources. IVSS, TDCJ, BOP, and court records each show a different slice of the record, so the same person may have a custody status record, a jail booking record, a filed court case, and later a state-prison record.
| Field or Feature | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name search | Full or partial offender name for statewide custody or supervision search. |
| DOC ID | A state correctional identifier when available. |
| State or SID | State identification number used to narrow criminal-justice matches. |
| Jail ID | A local jail identifier if supplied by the participating system. |
| Permanent booking number | A booking identifier that may help separate similar names. |
| Custody or notification status | Status changes such as booked, released, transferred, death, escape, or court-event notices under OAG guidance. |
Booking means the administrative process after arrest. Intake includes identity check, search, property handling, fingerprints, booking photo, charges or holds, medical screening, classification, and housing if the person remains in custody. A detainer is a hold or notice from another agency, such as immigration, parole, another county, or federal authorities. A bond is court-set security for release before the case is over.
Swisher County Jail Facilities
Swisher County has two official detention facilities in the research, but they serve different inmate populations. The Swisher County Jail is the local county jail for new arrests, pretrial defendants, local short-term custody, and agency holds in the sheriff's custody. The Thomas R. Mechler Unit is a TDCJ state prison in Tulia, not a county booking jail. A person sentenced to state prison may be searched through TDCJ, even if the original arrest began in Swisher County.

The local jail, state prison, federal locator, and immigration locator should not be mixed. Swisher County Jail is the local starting point for a county booking, while TDCJ controls sentenced state-prison custody.
Swisher County Jail Records by Custody Type
Different systems answer different questions. IVSS helps with custody status and notifications. The sheriff confirms local jail custody. The clerk handles filed court records after charges are opened. TDCJ covers state prisoners. BOP covers sentenced federal inmates from 1982 to present, while federal pretrial custody can involve the U.S. Marshals. ICE ODLS is the immigration detainee locator, but no ICE detention facility was found in Swisher County.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | What It Does Not Prove |
|---|---|---|
| Local pretrial or short county sentence | IVSS plus Swisher County Sheriff's Office | It does not replace the official jail file. |
| Sentenced Texas state prisoner | TDCJ Inmate Information Search | It does not cover people still in county pretrial custody. |
| Federal inmate | BOP Inmate Locator | It may not show federal pretrial custody controlled by USMS. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator System | It is not a Swisher jail roster or booking-photo gallery. |
Note: If a local bond is posted but another agency has a hold, release may still be delayed.
Swisher County Booking and Intake
A typical Swisher County arrest may begin with a sheriff's deputy, Tulia police officer, DPS trooper, or another authorized officer. The person is transported to the Swisher County Jail or an appropriate holding location. Jail intake can include identity check, search, property inventory, fingerprints, booking photo, charge or hold entry, medical and safety screening, bond or magistrate processing, classification, and housing if the person remains in custody.
No local roster refresh rate was found. That matters for new arrests. IVSS may update with custody changes, but it warns users not to treat portal data as an official law-enforcement record. TDCJ updates on working days and says the data is at least 24 hours old. For a same-day arrest, direct jail confirmation by phone may be faster than waiting for a public system to reflect a booking.
Filed criminal cases are a separate record track. Once the prosecutor files a complaint, information, indictment, or other charging instrument, the Swisher County & District Clerk becomes the source for court records. For case filings after booking, use court records after a jail arrest instead of relying only on custody status.
Request Swisher County Booking Records
For jail and booking records that are not online, direct the request to the Swisher County Sheriff's Office. Use the person's full name, approximate arrest date, booking date if known, and the specific item requested, such as booking record, custody log entry, arresting agency, charge information, or release status. Texas Government Code Chapter 552 governs public-information requests to governmental bodies, subject to exceptions for law enforcement, privacy, juveniles, sealed records, expunction orders, and other protected information.
Use the clerk only when the record is a judicial record. The Swisher County & District Clerk record-request page says judicial records are available for in-office review at no charge, that requests may be made by email, fax, or mail, and that the office responds within 10 business days with availability and cost. The official county also lists the district clerk and county clerk pages for C J Chasco. That clerk route is useful once a criminal case has been filed, but it is not the custodian of every jail booking record.
Swisher County Jail Visitation Records
Official Swisher County sources did not publish a standing jail visitation schedule, visitor ID rule, dress code, child-visitor rule, attorney-visit page, mail rule, deposit limit, kiosk location, or local commissary fee table. A social notice found during research suggested holiday visitation can shift, and another social notice pointed to City Tele Coin for commissary deposits, but no current official county setup page was found. Treat those items as unconfirmed until the sheriff verifies them.
| Topic | Swisher-specific Official Finding | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Standing visit days and hours | Not located on official county pages. | Call 806-995-3326 before traveling. |
| Visitor ID and dress code | Not located. | Ask the sheriff for current rules. |
| Mail format | Not located. | Do not invent a book-in-number format. |
| Commissary vendor and fees | City Tele Coin appeared in a social post, not a current county setup page. | Confirm with the jail before sending money. |
| Attorney visits | No official schedule found. | Attorneys should contact the jail directly. |
Note: Confirm current custody, visit approval, mail rules, and deposit options with the sheriff before sending money or mail.
